Happy Earth Day!

Celebrated annually April 22nd.

What will you do to celebrate?  Hope our ideas will not only be helpful for Earth Day, but that you will always keep them in mind to enjoy and support.  It is because of places like this that make us Lucky To Live Here!

1.  Register for the Caumsett 5K Run/Walk which is on June 2nd this year. The path of the race will begin by the junction by the stables and head east, taking runners through the historic and beautiful grounds of Caumsett. Refreshments will be provided to participants in the Walled Garden following the race. Each runner will receive a complimentary t-shirt. Up your social good quotient and become a sponsor/donor for this great event. 

2.  May 2nd is NYS I Love My Park Day- More than 135 state parks, historic sites and public lands host I Love My Park Day. Registration for 2019 is now open! View participating events/locations and register on the map, or register using the regional lists below the map. Stay local, there are 20 state parks on Long Island which will be participating including Caumsett State Park. and sign up for the event at Caumsett!

3.  Learn about cleaning up your community and the environment! Family Earth Day Expo in Huntington's Heckscher Park on 4/4 from 9AM to 1:00PM will be fill with lot's of fun activities, energy efficient solutions, free tree giveaway and more!

4.  Discover more about the Nature Conservancy nationally and enjoy their Uplands Farm Sanctuary in Cold Spring Harbor by taking a level walk on their 2.4 mile trail.

5.  Learn about fresh water ecosystems at the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium then take a hike in the adjacent St. Johns Pond Preserve trail to explore some of Long Island's oldest forests. Sign up for Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery summer programs. Understand, appreciate and enjoy our local marine environment at The Waterfront Center in Oyster Bay.

6.  Learn and help wild birds and animals on Long Island. The Huntington- Oyster Bay Audubon Society hosts monthly meetings at the CSH Library or check out one of their programs. Check out the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary & Audobon Center in Oyster Bay ~ oldest songbird sanctuary in the U.S!  Sign your kids up for their Summer Sanctuary Adventures.  Learn more about Volunteers for Wildlife located in Locust Valley and sponsor an animal.

7.  Be informed and support local land conservation efforts of the North Shore Land Alliance including DeForest Williams and the Shore Road Restoration Project , both in Cold Spring Harbor. Sign up for one of their various events.


8.  Discover the many Long Island Greenbelt Trails and enjoy Long Island's new national sites! Register for various hikes throughout the year including the upcoming Trail View to Cold Spring Harbor and Back on May 6th. Long Island is lucky to have two National Park sites; Sagamore Hill National Historic Site in Oyster Bay and Fire Island National Seashore in Patchogue. Participate in events year round at these sites. 

9.  Stroll the gardens and natural settings of the area including Planting Fields Arboretum, Bailey Arboretum, Sands Point Preserve, and Old Westbury Gardens

10.  Start or join a local beach cleanup- the Surfrider Foundation for Central Long Island and Eastern Long Island sponsor various cleanups. The town of Huntington sponsors beach cleanups seasonally as well.
